Surface Street Improvements will not fix
Glendale Freeway Gap in Echo Park:
The Benefits of Finishing the Glendale Freeway

(Published in the Los Angeles Times)

All of the solutions offered will do little to really solve the traffic problems on Glendale Blvd.  There is a de-facto freeway running through Echo Park because the freeway proposed was never built.  Although extending the freeway all the way west through Beverly Hills may be impractical at this point, why not extend the freeway just down to the Hollywood Freeway between Rampart and Alvarado?

Blocking construction of a freeway, just because you do not want it in your neighborhood, does not stop the traffic.  It just moves the traffic to the surface streets, destroying the very neighborhood the residents were trying to save.
